How Long a Renovation Takes and How Long It Will Last

0

These two are among the most frequently asked questions for a reason. As people say “Time is Money” and in the cases of renovation we can see that this is indeed true in so many aspects.

How Long a Renovation Takes

There are many factors that affect the duration of a renovation project but the most important are:

1. Size of the project

Generally everything from refreshing kitchen cabinets to walls demolition and rebuilding could be considered as a renovation. Keeping this in mind we can put the duration of such a project somewhere between a couple of hours and a year or even more. However, an average renovation along with planning, searching for contractors, pre- and post-construction stages usually takes between 3 and 8 months. So arm yourself with patience and take it under consideration when arranging your schedule.

2. Specifics of the job

When speaking of renovation I can confidently say that there are no identical projects. Everything depends on the specific requirements of the owners, ideas of the interior designers and so on. In addition some jobs require special skills and even proficiency in certain areas. For example a professional handyman will be enough if you need some minor fixes and fittings on doors, windows or furniture. For complicated bathroom projects however you’ll have to hire certified plumber.

3. Renovators efficiency and proficiency

Here the things are clear – it takes a lot of research and a little bit of luck to find the perfect renovation contractor. In the cases when specialists in different areas of expertise are needed there is a big chance for something to go wrong or the choice of workers not to be as good as it could. However once you find the right professional you can rest assured that not only the job will be done in accordance to the agreed deadline but the quality of work and end results will be to your satisfaction.

How Long a Renovation Lasts

The possible answers here vary as well. Solid structures such as concrete, masonry and brickwork could last a hundred years and even more. Doors, cabinets, countertops and faucets depending on the materials and the quality could last with no replacement for more than 20 year. Shorter is the period for windows, paint and carpeting – under 15 years. All in all if you put your money in a renovation and it’s conducted by professionals and with quality materials you will definitely have at least a decade free of renovations. On the other hand if you are going to change the interior of your home before the expiration date of your last renovation or not is entirely up to you. The good thing is that time is on your side.
