Your Front Door – from a Feng Shui Perspective

A top priority from a Feng Shui point of view is your Front Door. The front door is the most important part of your home or business .
In Feng Shui, the house gets its energy or nourishment through the front door, so the stronger, healthier and more balanced the front door is, the stronger and better the quality of energy available for those who live in the house.

So, on arriving at the front door of a recent clients home, we couldn’t believe our eyes, the paint at the front door was peeling away, there were cobwebs hanging at the door, the plants were all dead at the front of the house. A large broken pot lay beside the door. It looked so sad & neglected.  To the unknowing eye, it looked like the house was not lived in. After speaking to the couple, the past 8 months had been particularly difficult for them. We asked what had changed in the house since then and they had built a car port to the back of the house and had stopped using the front door!! After I explained to the couple how the energy flows in the front entrance they took immediate action – cleaned and repainted the door, they got some new plants and cleaned the step, added a lovely welcome mat and started using the front door again.

The front door is the mouth of the house and is the same as the mouth of a body. If we don’t feed our body with food aka energy and give it attention our bodies start to deplete just like our houses.

So points to remember for your Front Door:

  1. An unobstructed, open flow of energy to the front door. This means there are no recycling bins, cracked old pots with dead or prickly plants or any other items blocking the flow of energy to your front door.
  2. A front door that is well-cared for. A door that opens wide and smooth, without squeaking and that has good looking crack free paint. No odd looking, unused nails around the door frame, no rusty doorknobs, no worn out Christmas wreaths in July… you get the idea!
  3. A front door that is in harmony with the Feng Shui element of the house. The direction of the front door is very important in Feng Shui, so in order to harness the best energy it is advisable to choose a Feng Shui colour that is supportive of the Feng Shui element of the house. This is determined during a consultation.

As with most things it’s the little things that can make a big difference, so with a little elbow grease you can transform your front door ……please and send us some pictures of your before and afters!!! And for more information visit us at
